My Craft Fairs this Holiday Season

Hey Hey! Long time no see. I've been busy being a hermit, creating creating creating for my 5 (yes, five) upcoming craft fairs.

The first has started already! The annual Craft Show at the infamous Foundation Restaurant. Located at 2301 Main Street (that's right at the corner of 7th and Main). I look forward to putting up this show every year, sort of like a personal holiday tradition of mine.

If you would like to grab one of my collages you can head over there during any of their opening hours from now until Dec 30th. Just take the one you want off the wall and bring it up to the cash and you can take it home right after making the purchase.

 

The second craft fair is this Friday night at the Western Front, 303 East 8th Ave (at Scotia, one block east of Main Street). There will be beer and wine and many beautiful things to look at. I will be there from 6-9pm. Please stop by!

This Sunday is craft fair number three. Got Craft is always busy and really fun. They will be giving away 45 swag bags (which are loaded with awesomeness from all the vendors) to the first 45 people in the door. If you want one, be prepared to line up starting at 6am! They will also have a free DIY station hosted by Spool of Thread.

 

The largest (and most scary for me) is craft fair number four, the One of a Kind Show at the Vancouver Convention Center. You may have noticed the above image on the sides of buses! This fair is HUGE and has many reasons to visit not even including the merchandise. There will be a comlimentary gift wrap station, a Sewing Salon where you can make small projects. Check out the Sewing Salon schedule. There will also be a room where you can relax on comfy couches and drink complimentary tea! They have free childminding, fashion shows, seminars and more!

Be sure to visit me Dec 9-12 at booth F44!

The final craft fair for me this season will be on Dec 18th. That is your last Saturday to get gifts before the big day. It is at Little Mountain Gallery 195 East 26th Ave (at Main Street). By donation or a can for the Food Bank.

Slides

A few months ago I came across a huge bin of slides at one of my favourite alternative art supply stores. I went through them and picked out a bunch I liked, had them scanned and put onto a cd, and have been cropping and then printing them for use in my collages. Folk Festival 2010 - Organized Chaos!

 

So with the Vancouver Folk Festival Bazaar coming up I had a lot of work to do in less than a week. The panels that I work on were not in stock until very close to my deadline! 60 collages in 5 days. Could it be done?

Yes! It could! I worked my little butt off and made 60 collages in 5 days!

 

Not with out destroying my "studio" aka my living room...

 

...and cutting myself pretty severely by pushing myself up to get the phone and pressing my hand against my exacto knife. This put quite a dent in productivity, having to go to the doctor's office etc.

And I got a cute keychain out of the whole deal. My mom found this purple owl and gave it to me because I was having such a shitty day.

It was all well worth it! Our tent was right on the beach, and right in front of stage 6.

 

 

Chanda and I had such a great time! We work well as a team and understand each other's quirks. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year!

The Food in My Life

The universe has been providing lately. With payday still a week or so away and the cupboards looking kind of bare (what can I make with frozen peas, limp celery, dry lentils, and cocoa powder?) I was amazed by the food that appeared. My landlord went fishing and gave me one of the two trout that he caught.

I stuffed it with lemon and onion and some thyme on the inside and outside and put it in the oven. Then I went outside and picked some lettuce, trimmed the tops of the onions that I am growing, and plucked some basil and cilantro for a salad. Made some dressing. Wild rice. Dinner.

The next day my friend invited me over for a pot luck BBQ. I had baking ingredients and some frozen raspberries so I whipped up a cake with raspberry lemon icing. It looked like it was made in an Easy Bake oven, but it was good.

That night we feasted on three kinds of bread, cucumber garlic dip, roasted veggies, greek salad, camembert, and (they had) ribs.

 

Cooking and eating is one of my favourite things to do with friends.

New Collages!

I am really happy with this batch of collages. Something about them came together so nicely and they are pretty quirky and the colours are fantastic.

New Collages for GOT CRAFT? and Etsy

I am SO excited about tomorrow's craft fair, Got Craft? Above are some new collages that I have done. They will be for sale tomorrow and then listed on Etsy if they don't sell at GC.

The first 30 people through the door will receive swag bags full of locally made crafts. Fifteen lucky people will receive a mini collage pack, which is sort of like a sample of my collage packs. I loved making these and I love the way they turned out. They are so cute!

My full sized collage packs will be available for sale tomorrow at my table. They are also available to buy at Urban Source, a great alternative art supply store on Main Street.   

The craft fair tomorrow will be a great place to buy a gift for Mother's Day.

I will be sharing a table with my friend, Chanda, who makes these lovely magnets.
